Gail Anderson / Spotco
I had the pleasure of meeting with Gail Anderson, the Creative Director/Design of Spotco in on of the round-table discussons. I was at a table with about ten other designers and we had a great conversation. It was very interesting to hear about her career and what she is doing now. She has been at Spotco for about five years and before that she was at Rolling Stones Magazine. She explained a little about the process they go through in creating a poster for a musical/Broadway show. She mentioned that her team starts out about reading the script and tries to come up with a concept from there. Her team does about 8–10 concepts for the client and has to present them in a “show” fashion because that is what they are used to seeing.
It was great to speak with Gail and the work she produces is amazing.
AIGA Conference - Day 1
Today I arrived in Denver for the AIGA Design Conference. I also attended it with a few co-workers from Logoworks. We started out by attending the Pantone Workshop (which we paid extra for) and was enlightened by Doris Brown who is the VP of Marketing for Pantone. For the most part it was a good presentation on color but we all agreed that is was more like an infomercial. She presented a lot of good information on color theory but did it so quick that you couldn’t really take any of it in. After that she went into Pantone’s new color swatches, the Goe System, which was great to learn about but again, very infomercial like.I was really a little disappointed but was able to get a few pieces of information that I can apply to my design. <more comments on that later>
This evening we sat down for the welcome and introduction. Some highlights from that were the Mayor of Denver, John Hickenlooper, and his presentation on how he has brought design to the city and how it has improved the look and feel of it.
More to come.
